Who We Serve

After School Enrichment Program

Understory’s after school enrichment program provides healthy, skill building activities to young people. The programming is designed to teach students new skills in fun and engaging ways. The primary objective of the program is to enhance students’ executive functioning. As their executive functioning skills develop their performance will improve in educational settings. Additionally, through games, arts and crafts, and movement activities, participants will increase self-confidence and improve their ability to manage relationships.

At Understory we adapt our services and supports to the unique needs of the young people and organizations we serve.

Our approach is grounded in neurodevelopmental research, which contends that interventions and programs must match an individual’s unique brain functioning to be successful.

Therapeutic Services

Children and adolescents who are exhibiting emotional, behavioral and/or learning difficulties, that are interfering with healthy school functioning. This may include individuals with symptoms consistent with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, or trauma/toxic stress.

School-Based Services

Private, public, or charter schools that would benefit from intervention and support services from an experienced school psychologist. This may include individual counseling, small group interventions, or professional development sessions for staff.

Consultation Services

Schools and organizations interested in implementing trauma-informed, equitable systems of care. This may include a comprehensive needs assessment and recommendations for program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

To foster resilience, we help people build adequate internal and external resources to successfully overcome stressful experiences.

The foundation of a therapeutic relationship is trust. Within this trusting relationship, a young person benefits from support, guidance, and calm. The strength of the relationship allows the young person to explore their challenges, develop new skills, and gain valuable insights.
